Cubbies get: Justice, David 33 LF 83 83 $2,600,000 1 Sexson, Richie 25 1B 82 82 $470,000 Arb 01 (33/116 in 1999) Diaz, Einar 27 78 81 $207,000 Arb 01 Betancourt, Rafael 24 RP 74 89 $10,900 Arb 03 Crisp, Coco 20 CF 70 89 $6,500
Tribe gets: Patterson, Corey 20 CF 75 88 $6,500 Arb 03 Valdez, Ismael 26 SP 81 81 $2,750,000 1 Fontenot, Mike 19 2B 70 85 $6,500 Arb 03 Grace, Mark 35 80 80 $2,850,000 2 Downs, Scott 24 RP 69 84 $10,900 Arb 03
Tribe gets good set of players in needed areas. We have no infield depth, so Fontenot helps. Grace becomes our 1B with Thome to DH. Valdez is better than his rating. We like this move.

Agreed, I have a surplus of pitching and Valdez helps him way more than he does me, even though he's a 26 year old solid pitcher. Patterson was tough to lose but Crisp helps, losing Gracey is the face but we add a stud in Sexson, and gain some power for Sosa with Justice. Diaz takes over as our Catcher and Betancourt will help our pen soon...

The ratings in the game are different then the real ratings. The +/- in the top right hand corner represent your scouts skills. The rosters I posted in each teams section have the players real ratings which are.....
agOVpk 33 84 84 Justice, David $2,600,000 1 25 86 86 Sexson, Richie $470,000 Arb '01 27 75 77 Diaz, Einar $207,000 Arb '01 24 82 93 Betancourt, Rafael $10,900 Arb '03 20 74 89 Crisp, Coco $6,500 Arb '03
agOVpk 20 73 82 Patterson, Corey $6,500 Arb '03 26 87 87 Valdez, Ismael $2,750,000 1 19 70 81 Fontenot, Mike $6,500 Arb '03 35 83 83 Grace, Mark $2,850,000 2 24 73 84 Downs, Scott $10,900 Arb '03
It will only be like this for the first 2 seasons, then since all the scouts are paid the same it will even out. Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry to but in, but I really don't think this is a fair deal. Richie Sexson is an absolute stud and Betancourt will be a top of the line closer. Sexson is the real key here though. He has got 50+ home run potential, an MVP candidate perennially! At 25 years old! His rating really doesn't show how great he can be.

good point but the fact is Valdez can win anywhere from 10-20 games, and his rating is a little low, but he pitches above his rating, so I think Cleveland traded a good bat for a good pitcher no harm no foul

Wow, I didn't even see that Coco Crisp was in this trade, too. It's definitely a bad deal now. Crisp is a sure thing! Pencil him in for the occasional batting title and a closet filled with gold gloves.

I'm serious. I was the Cleveland GM before I switched to Toronto. I did a bunch of sims with just about every combination of players and Crisp was always studly.

Coco Crisp > Corey Patterson
The only reason I care is that I really like this league and think it has a lot of potential. I would hate to see league parity get skewed in the first few days, especially before GMs have a chance to really get to know their teams.

This would be fair if Sexon was 35... but he's just entering his prime.

Here is how I break it down:
Coco Crisp 74/89 - Corey Patterson 73/82 . . . Crisp is better now with more potential.
25 year old Richie Sexson 86/86 (with loads of potential) for Ismael Valdez 87/87 . . . Valdez isn't half the player Sexson is, but whatever.
Even though both these deals are heavily slanted towards Chicago, lets just pretend that they are fair.
We've then got David Justice 84/84 for Mark Grace 83/83. Basically even, except that Justin is better and younger . . .
24 year old Rafael Betancourt 82/93 for 73/84 Scott Downs and 70/81 Mike Fontenot? Betancourt has got closer type stuff. He should be getting back something better for him.
And then Cleveland just throws in Einar Diaz for the hell of it.
I think each of these deals individually is slanted towards Chicago. Add them all up and it is a HUGE slant.
That's all I'm going to say about this though.
