Baseball Mogul is a game of what if's. It's your chance to go back and rewrite history, take back that bad trade that your favorite team's GM made that set your franchise back for years. In Minnesota, they are doing exactly that. Big Papi is still wearing the pinstripes and launching balls off the Hefty Bag. His presence in the lineup is something that the real life Twins never had. Ortiz is hitting .338 with 19 hr's and 73 RBI in just over a half a season. Of course you can't drive in runs if nobody is on base, which could mean that 2B Todd Walker is the teams MVP. Walker is having a career year. He already smashed more homeruns then he has the past 2 season's combined and his .352 average is second in the American League. The Twins success has not been all luck as a key trade has really paid off. Giving up 21 year old Johan Santana had to be tough, but the tandem of Octavio Dotel and Richard Hidalgo have made this team a contender now. Winners of 15 out of the last 20, the Twinkies sit on top the AL Wild Card along with the Boston Red Sox.
Seeing that this sim marks the halfway point in the season I figure it might be a good time to look at some projected stats. A-Rod and Jim Edmonds both have 30 homeruns, Griffey Jr and Geoff Jenkins are not far behind at 29. You think any of them have a shot at the 60 homerun club? How about the RBI totals of some of these guys. The 2 homerun leaders and Miguel Tejada all have over 90 RBI in about 80 games. Dave Roberts of the Pirates has worn out a path on the carpet between first and second at Three Rivers Stadium. He currently has 47 steals, 13 more then the second place Luis Castillo of the Marlins. Pitcher are having a good time too, 11 pitchers already in double digits. We have a good shot at seeing some 20 game winners although maybe not 27-0 like some other league. Octavio Dotel of the Twins has 31 saves and a solid shot at Bobby Thigpens record. All around the league is a lot of exciting action. Four of the divisions have great pennant races with other teams all eying the wild card.
Now let's take a look at the rosters for the All Star Game. Did your guy get snubbed? Here is your final chance to elect a player into the game. Below these rosters are the final vote candidates. Polls will open shortly and will stay up till 8pm Monday night.
