Question - what about players I don't want to sign to 5 or more years? For instance, I want to extend Juan Gonzalez but he's 30, really only want him for maybe 3 more years. What's the salary guidelines?
By the way, in the file, Gonzalez 'hates Cleveland' but wants a no trade clause. Funny.
Anyway, here's my guys for this sim:
Bartolo Colon 5 years $3 mil per year
Wil Cordero 2 years $1.32 mil per year
Ismael Valdez 5 years $3 mil per year

you can resign him to 3 years. The simplest way for me to explain it is the rule is preventing bench players and old guys from signing 6-7 year deals.
What I've seen in other leagues is that sometimes a GM will sign everyone for 7 years cause it's cheaper....then when all the contracts come back to haunt them they quit the league and a new GM has to deal with the burden.

That makes sense, I've seen that sort of thing too. Ok, thanks!
