Kansas City and St. Louis are atop of baseball in the standings, showing the way in the show me state. Kansas City may be the biggest surprise team at 11-3. Lead by top of the lineup catalyst's Johnny Damon and Joe Randa who are both batting over .400. Beltran, Sweeney and Dye have had many opportunities to drive them in and thus far have delivered. The pitching staff have also been huge for them by having a balance of 4 two game winners. Many managers say games are won/lost between the 5th and 7th innings. Well Santiago and Spoolarjic have combined for 17 and 1/2 scoreless innings picking up some slack for an injury prone back end of the pen.
The Cardinals have a different approach, but similar results at 10-3. Greg Maddux, Andy Benes, and the entire Cards pen have been DOMINATING. If Kile and Morris can get on track this could be a scary team. Combine that with an offense that's leading the bigs with 27 homeruns and that's a recipe for disaster if your on one of the other 29 clubs.
Else where around baseball, the Blue Jays, Rangers, Marlins, and Rockies are holding Division leads. But many teams are close as it's still waaaaaay too early to be scoreboard watching. On individual notes Ken Hill, Kip Wells, Ricardo Rincon, Jimmy Haynes, join Greg Maddux as the only 3 game winners so far. Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire suggest that we may need to implement some steroid testing in our league as they are the co-homerun leaders with 6. Johnny Damon is making current Yankee fans scratch their head as he has 9 stolen bases in 12 games(he was really that fast once upon a time?).
Well that wraps up our first sim. Thanks again for your patience over the past week, From here on out we are on a strict schedule of two sims a week. Be sure to have your lineups updated by Wednesday night as the next sim will be Thursday. Also if you have a top 10 draft pick be sure to get your lists in before 8pm tomorrow.
