Nomar, Pedro Ready To Take Red Sox To The TopBy Jay SmithThat is the image of the top players that the Boston Red Sox have to offer, Pedro Martinez (left) and Nomar Garciaparra (right). Nomar's bat and Pedro's 90+ pitches are sure to guide the Red Sox to the playoffs. Last year, Pedro Martinez led the majors in two important categories, ERA and wins. He led the pitchers with a 1.91 ERA and had 25 wins with only 4 losses. He also only allowed 9 homeruns throughout the season and struckout the batter on 313 occasions. He had a great postseason with 2 wins and 0.00 ERA. Nomar also had a great season. He had a .360 AVG, 190 H, 31 HRs, 111 Rs, 15 SBs, 113 RBIs, and a .423 OBP. This was his third straight .300+ AVG season, second straight 100+ RBI season, and third straight 25+ HR season. He also had a great postseason with a .400 AVG, 8 H, and 5 RBIs. Unfortunately, even with Nomar and Pedro's great postseason performances, the Red Sox were unable to surpass the Yankees abilities. Although this year the Yankees are missing two of their aces, Roger Clemens and David Cone. The two were trade to the Texas Rangers and the Pittsburg Pirates, respectively. The Red Sox made no trades this offseason although they seem pretty well stacked. Not only do they have a solid major league team but they also have a few well rounded farm system players that can be called up anytime during the season. I wouldn't be surpised to see pitching prospect Jonathan Papelbon called up sometime near the end of this season or during the next season. The 19-year-old pitcher out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana has shown that he is ready to bring his stuff to the majors. This season is sure to be full of surprises.

Seeing that most people so far have put us as not making the playoffs I would like to know why people think I won't make it.
