The Tampa Bay D-Rays send
3B Aubrey Huff 85/88, CF Joey Gathright 64/82
for
CF Ryan Freel 81/92, RP Pasqual Coco 78/82 From the Blue Jays
I accept because I get a great young player in Freel, and an average-above average reliever. Huff is a great player, but Freel could be even better.

Toronto Blue Jays accept.
I am loaded with outfielders and while Ryan Freel is incredibly versatile and a speedster, Aubrey Huff gives me exactly what I needed. I get a young third baseman who is under team control until he hits arbitration in 03. Huff won the rookie of the year award with his 25 home runs and .313 average and I can slot that right into the heart of my lineup. He will serve as a major upgrade over the all glove Scott Brosius.
What I really liked about Ryan Freel was his immense versatility. I planned to keep him on my bench where he could easily get 400+ at bats simply by sitting there, being used as a replacement guy all around the diamond and as a pinch runner. Freel will lead the league in stolen bases if he is used every day, bank on it. Yet, Huff is an everyday guy with a great health rating. Freel's health scares me a bit. I'm not sure he has what it takes to grind out 140+ games.
Anyways, giving up Freel meant giving up my ultra versatile base stealer from the bench. That's why I went for Joey Gathright. He is very similar to Freel except that he doesn't play the infield. I threw in a good reliever in Pasqual Coco and we got it done.
Good luck to Ryan Freel and Pasqual Coco in the sunny south.
